Application summary
I currently oversee all of the health science and public safety programs in the state of Nevada. Recently, I have served on the Region V Policy Committee, been on the Nevada ACTE board for five years, and I was a Region V fellow. I am excited to run for vice president of the Health Science Education Division to continue the amazing things that have been started and to help support more teachers.

Platform statement
As the vice president of HSE, I would like to increase communication at the local, regional and national levels. Many members feel like they are not being heard. I would like to start hosting quarterly Zoom meetings where members can communicate with each other, share great ideas about the excellent things happening in their schools and in other states, and even find mentors from another state. The current vice president has started this, and I would like to continue it.

Many members join and attend the VISION conference, but they are unaware of how to get involved. Letting members know the different ways they can get involved makes them feel more comfortable, assess their strengths and talents, and motivates them to find ways to become more active members of the ACTE family. We must find different ways to communicate with members, provide them with alternative ways to get and stay involved and use all of the resources at our disposal to encourage participation and increase engagement.

Application summary
I am currently a health services instructor at Hannibal Career & Tech Center and a new fellow in the ACTE fellowship program. I have been an ACTE member for a few years and was a Region III presenter in 2022. I am running for this position to be the change I wish to see in ACTE HSE. Our HSE Division is so underrepresented. If we can recruit and retain more of our health services instructors from around the nation, we will begin to rectify that underrepresentation. I believe that the key to this lies in building and strengthening our corporate partnerships, as well as creating resources that are easy to use and readily available to our members.

Platform statement

As the HSE Division vice president, I will support the growth of programs such as IAED mentorship, the fellowship program, and HSE — stat. I will also make it my mission to grow the HSE Division membership by creating resources for schools and members to use for recruitment and retention. By committing to be a voice for the HSE Division online and in person, I will share my experiences formally and informally in ways that encourage new teachers and veteran teachers to consider becoming ACTE members. I will also work with our board of directors to come up with ways that we can personally reach out to members to help them feel valued and connected and provide resources for navigating the teacher-ACTE relationship.

While membership is key to a thriving organization, retention of that membership base and involvement beyond dues-paying members will be my focus as HSE Division vice president. I will work with a team to come up with new and innovative ways to recruit and support members like me in positions on task forces, committees, and in other leadership opportunities.

Application summary
As a 10-year administrator in career and technical education with experience in both secondary and postsecondary settings, I feel I have a lot to contribute as well as learn by serving in this capacity. Enhancing my passion for the CTE world, I am halfway through my Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in workforce education, and I would welcome the opportunity to serve in a broader aspect other than at the state level. I have presented at two conferences on work-based learning and have joined the work-based learning committee through ACTE to better serve our community. With my educational and work history background, I feel I would be a contributing member of the team.

Platform statement
As a current director of a technical college, it has been my position that we work with human capital, and the fact that we can change not only their lives but their families’ lives as well. That is the most powerful thing we can do for someone, and we better get it right! Any student who walks through the doors of my school wanting to learn a trade — will learn a trade. It is important to me that programs are relevant, reliable and delivered with ultimate integrity. This is accomplished by staying current with community and regional demands, and to do this, the administrative team along with the instructional team need to stay involved in the community and current practice efforts. This requires that we are not just producing within the boundaries of the institution. Resources are at an all-time high expense-wise while at an all-time low for availability. Aligning resources productively and utilizing other avenues is essential. Work-based learning is my focal point at this juncture as it fits in with the productive use of resources. Joining forces with local area stakeholders will continue to provide high-quality, highly skilled, and employable students.

Application summary
My history in CTE is a long one. I have served as a teacher in CTE for 26 years and have had a passion for my students, my program, and my professional organization. I would be honored to continue to serve ACTE, Region III and all of our members as the Region III vice president-elect.

Platform statement
At this monumental time in education and CTE, we are having record needs for educators. Region III has led the way for ACTE to recruit and retain CTE educators by helping students find their passion in pursuing an education degree and having industry professionals to share their passion by becoming educators. As Region III VP-elect, I will champion this initiative to help CTE find the dedicated and passion-driven professionals needed to keep the opportunities for industry and students thriving and growing. To that end, we will provide more value to membership and help grow our organization through valuable engagement.

Because of this increased membership due to engagement and value, we will be able to support our organization through advocacy with our state and national initiatives, by providing opportunities to gain training on advocating on state and national levels, by supporting ACTE’s National Policy Seminar, and by helping states to establish state policy seminars to make a difference in their home state and districts. These plans will help to grow our professional and leadership development by supporting and encouraging more fellows from Region III. I will continue to support all inclusion and diversity within our region so all feel welcomed and supported.

National ACTE involvement
New and Related Services Division Law and Justice section lead, 2023

Regional ACTE involvement
Conference attendee: 2023

Application summary
After 23 years in law enforcement, I decided to become a teacher for law and justice pathways in order to present a better image of law enforcement and to show high school students how the career is a viable path to choose. Through this process, it has been a struggle to find others in the profession to share ideas with. In my previous profession, I was directly involved with a few national organizations, and through this, it made me a better officer and agent. This is the same reason I pursued ACTE, and when the new position of section lead came open, I knew this was the opportunity to use my skills learned in previous committee assignments to better the pathway for others.

Platform statement
There are two main items I would like to accomplish as New and Related Services Division vice president-elect. The first goal would be the encouragement and identification of new membership for those who teach CTE. As stated earlier, I had no idea what ACTE was until I hit my third year of teaching. Creating an environment that attracts new members and encourages current members to reach out to others would be my first goal. My second goal would be to use the ACTE platform to encourage more partnership with the industry. Right now, it is more of me, a teacher, cold-calling, and the message is not always received. Coming up with a package for any teacher to use and send to a business partner will show there is a larger presence behind the classroom.

Application summary
Currently, I serve as the agriculture consultant and state FFA advisor in Iowa. I believe that career and technical education can be the premier educational model, delivering tomorrow’s leaders and problem-solvers through involved and robust experiences. I want to help make that vision a reality through favorable policy development, enhancing funding sources for teachers’ needs, and increasing administrative, along with public, support for our programming. The need for CTE to fill our workforce pipeline is limitless. We are poised to be the solution to the educational malaise that we are currently facing. There is no better time than now to realize that potential.
