ACTE Announces New York Assistant Director as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Constance Spohn, Assistant Director at CTE Technical Assistance Center of New York in Rexford, New York, as the recipient of the 2020 ACTE Region I Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes career and technical education (CTE) professionals for their leadership on behalf of ACTE, their innovations in CTE and their contributions to the field over an extended period of time. For the second time ever at the Virtual Awards Gala, ACTE will be inducting all five Lifetime Achievement national finalists into the new ACTE Hall of Fame virtually. The Hall of Fame honors the leadership of CTE professionals who have made enduring contributions to CTE throughout their career.

Constance Spohn serves as the Assistant Director, and previously served as the Lead Technical Assistance Center Specialist of the CTE Technical Assistance Center of NY. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in home economics education from the State University College at Oneonta, NY and a Ph. D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany, and permanent certification as a teacher and school district administrator. Spohn’s work experience includes teaching career and technical education and special education students. Her students have ranged in age from pre-school to adult. She was the Director of Special Programs and elementary principal in a school District. Spohn has consulted for the US Department of Education, the NYSED, the National School-to-Work Office and the Center for International Leadership in Education. Spohn has experience in CTE related professional organization leadership on local, state and national levels.

Spohn is one of 5 finalists for the 2021 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Thursday, December 3, during ACTE’s Virtual CareerTech VISION 2020.
