ACTE Announces New York Educator as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Jennifer Probst, Dental Assistant Teacher in Spencerport, New York as the 2020 ACTE Region I New Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes new career and technical education (CTE) teachers who have made significant contributions to innovative and unique CTE programs, and who shown a professional commitment early in their careers.

Jennifer Probst RDH, BS is a Certified Dental Assisting teacher. She is a Registered Dental Hygienist in New York and is certified to administer anesthesia and nitrous oxide. Probst achieved Fellowship with the Academy of Laser Dentistry in 2016 and sits on the Academy of Laser Dentistry’s Laser Safety Committee. Probst has 20+ years’ experience in dental practice and has been an office manager, dental assistant, and hygienist.  Prior to Probst’s teaching at BOCES, she was Lead Dental Hygienist in a private practice were she implemented the use of dental lasers in the office and trained the hygienist’s and doctor.

She has a strong passion for educating her students in oral health, health science, and employability skills.  From the first day Probst started teaching at the Western Monroe and Orleans Counties (WEMOCO), she has evolved the dental assisting program.  Over the past 4 years, she has expanded from a one-year course to a 2-year course where students receive over 200+ hours of Work Based Learning opportunities in the community.  She works diligently with industry partners in her community to grow the dental assisting program and advisory board.  Probst has added over 29 dental industry partners including dental labs and dental offices.

Probst is one of 5 finalists for the 2021 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Thursday, December 3, during ACTE’s Virtual CareerTech VISION 2020.  The Virtual Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, CareerSafe, and Stratasys.
