ACTE announces 2021 National Leadership Fellowship Program fellows

ACTE announced the selection of 24 participants for its National Leadership Fellowship Program. The program identifies and trains leaders. Participants complete the program with a strong desire and motivation to support an educated, prepared, adaptable and competitive workforce.

Fellows commit a calendar year to the National Leadership Fellowship Program, Jan. 1–Dec. 31. The 2021 class of fellows represents each of ACTE’s five regions and the majority of divisions. In addition to more experienced educators, this year’s fellowship class again includes a cohort of new professionals.

Cindy Stover will act as the 2021 fellowship coordinator. She currently serves as the executive director of Illinois ACTE, and previously served as the ACTE Region III vice president.

Apply for Postsecondary Leadership Success Program at ACTE – Sponsored by ECMC Foundation

The Postsecondary Leadership Success Program at ACTE — Sponsored by the ECMC Foundation presents a yearlong professional development experience. The program’s intent? To develop the organizational leadership and management skills of postsecondary CTE professionals, with an emphasis on addressing the needs of underserved populations.

Twenty selected fellows will:

Work with a dedicated mentor

  • Attend workshops
  • Be eligible to earn two semester hours graduate education from The Ohio State University

Best Practices in Supervising and Coaching CTE Teachers

In order to conduct meaningful teacher evaluations, leaders need to flip the mindset concerning their role. Look at the evaluation process and shift the admin’s role from that of an evaluator to a coach. This course will discuss the best practices in supervision of career and technical education (CTE) teachers.

Teaching Secondary Students Affected by Trauma

This course is designed to familiarize instructors with their roles and responsibilities in supporting students suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The course provides an overview of how to recognize trauma. The impact of physical and psychological trauma on learning is also explained. Instructors offer guidance on how to create a trauma-sensitive classroom environment.

Developing Soft Skills in CTE

Soft skills are essential to career readiness. CTE students need to develop and utilize soft skills during their career preparation. This course:

  • Defines soft skills
  • Offers strategies that instructors can use to integrate soft skill development

Building Cultural Competency in Instructors

The course will include a review of critical terms, ideas and real-world case studies, providing instructors and administrators with useful information and takeaways. Participants will develop a better understanding of cultural competency and produce tangible resources.

Introduction to Educating Students with Disabilities

This course emphasizes providing meaningful accommodations to students with disabilities in an education setting including: legal mandates and regulations, characteristics and educational needs of students with disabilities, and instructional techniques.

Joseph P. Dragone wins Champion for CTE award

ACTE and its board of directors are pleased to announce the ACTE Champion for CTE: Joseph P. Dragone, Ph.D., senior executive officer at Capital Region BOCES in Albany, New York, prioritizes the development and expansion of career and technical education.

Dragone has expanded partnerships and programming for underserved adults in downtown Albany at the Capital South Campus Center – including a new high-tech Internet of Things Technology Demonstration Center. He regularly meets with state lawmakers, business partners and regional leaders to discuss issues affecting BOCES programs across the state and to advocate for support of CTE.

The ACTE Champion for CTE award recognizes education leaders, business and industry executives, celebrities and thought leaders who support and champion career and technical education (CTE) programs as a vital part of developing a prepared, adaptable, and competitive workforce.
