ACTE Announces Arizona Superintendent as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Robert Weir, Superintendent at Valley Academy in Cottonwood, Arizona, as the 2019 ACTE Region V Administrator of the Year. This award recognizes administrative career and technical education (CTE) professionals at the school, district, county, state, or federal level who have demonstrated leadership in ensuring teacher and student success and have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and effective CTE programs.

Weir has been in education for 27 years. He was a graphic/web design CTE teacher at Camp Verde High School (CVHS) for 17 years. While teaching, he was the CTE Director for seven years. Weir was promoted to the CVHS Principal for seven years and continued to be the CTE Director while serving as the principal.

Weir has been the Superintendent at Valley Academy for Career and Technology Education (VACTE) CTED district in Arizona for the past three years. VACTE has started seven CTE programs at its central campus over the past three years and the student enrollment has quadrupled during this time. Weir persuades students to complete a CTE program while in high school and works to ensure CTE opportunities are available for all students in the Verde Valley of Arizona.

Weir is one of five finalists for the 2020 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, a dinner and award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Wednesday evening, December 4, during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2019 in Anaheim, CA. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, CareerSafe, and Stratasys. For more information about the ACTE Excellence Awards, visit our webpage.
