ACTE Announces Oklahoma School Counselor as National Award Finalist

 

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Kelly Powers, Director of Counselors at Metro Technology Centers in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as the recipient of the 2021 ACTE Region IV Counseling and Career Development Professional Award. This award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development, and have advocated for career and technical education (CTE) as a viable option for all students.

 

Kelly Powers has been a certified school counselor for the past 16 years and has been employed at Metro Technology Centers for the last 7. She is passionate about advocating for all students and encouraging and supporting them in their career tech endeavors. She is a member of the Metro Tech Tools for Schools team, DICE (Diversity, Inclusion, Culture, and Equity) Committee, District Crisis Team, the Metro Tech Foundation Board and serves as the district’s Lead Student Ambassador Sponsor and NTHS Sponsor. She also uses her bilingual ability to regularly communicate with parents and families of students.

 

Powers is one of five finalists for the 2022 national title. The national winner will be announced at the virtual ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 30 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Virtual Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
