ACTE Announces Oklahoma Instructional Coach as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Bonner Slayton, Instructional Coach at Moore Norman Technology Center in Norman, Oklahoma, as the 2023 ACTE Region IV Teacher Educator of the Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) educators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities. 

Bonner Slayton serves as an Instructional Coach/Literacy Specialist/Student Success Coach at Moore Norman Technology Center. He has been involved in the Career Tech system for 15 years and has a passion for seeing students create success. He is a National Board Certified Teacher and earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum from the University of Oklahoma. Bonner has seen firsthand the power of CTE as a teacher leader and as a parent who had two children attend Career Tech. Bonner lives in Norman with his wife, Heidi, and their son, Konrad.   

Slayton is one of five finalists for the 2024 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, The Army, and Stratasys.
