ACTE Announces Michigan Executive Director of Career and Technical Education as National Award Finalist 

 

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Jenny Geno, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education at Saginaw Intermediate School District in Saginaw, Michigan, as the 2022 ACTE Region I Administrator of the Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) administrators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities. 

 

Jenny Geno is the Executive Director of Career and Technical Education at the Saginaw Intermediate School District in Saginaw, Michigan. With over 19 years of experience in CTE, Jenny has a deep passion for improving the lives of students and adults through the robust training and career opportunities that CTE offers. Through the lens of equity and access, Jenny works to break down barriers and create new paths toward rewarding careers for all individuals. She believes that education, in all forms, is the great equalizer.  

 

Ms. Geno completed her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, obtained both her master’s degree and Education Specialist Degrees from Saginaw Valley State University, with additional credits in Career and Technical Education from Wayne State University. She is currently a doctoral student attending Central Michigan University. She was a Gerstacker Fellow through Saginaw Valley State University in 2016 and is a graduate of the Henry Marsh Institute for Public Policy, also through SVSU. Geno is also a 2019 graduate of Leadership Saginaw, a leadership experience through Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce 

 

Jenny serves on the Michigan Workforce Development Board and chairs the Talent Cultivation and Aptitude Pairing Committee. She is also a member of the Michigan Apprenticeship Advisory Board, providing input toward statewide expansion efforts. Jenny serves as a member of the Office of Career and Technical Education’s Perkins V Executive Board which provides collaborative leadership with the Office of Career and Technical Education toward the implementation of this federal legislation. She has also been a member of Michigan’s Career Education Planning District Executive Board, which represents CEPD Directors from around the state, for 7 years and is currently serving as past chair and one of two legislative liaisons. Geno was recently elected to the Michigan Association of Career and Technical Education Board of Directors.  

 

Locally, she is a board member of the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works Career Education Advisory Council, Great Lakes Bay Manufacturers Association, Saginaw Future, Inc, and Partnershift, formerly known as the Saginaw County Business/Education Partnership.  She was also appointed to the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. 

 

Geno is one of five finalists for the 2023 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 30, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
