ACTE Announces Daniel Adams as a 2021 Postsecondary Leadership Success Program Fellow

Alexandria, VA—Today the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Daniel Adams as a Fellow for the 2021 Postsecondary Leadership Success Program at ACTE – sponsored by ECMC Foundation (PLSP-ECMCF). The program’s review committee selected 20 participants for the 2020-2021 cohort.  The PLSP-ECMCF will support current and aspiring leaders in career and technical education (CTE). The goal is to provide professional and career growth opportunities to the next generation of leaders at nonprofits and postsecondary institutions offering CTE programs.

Daniel Adams got into education more than twenty years ago as a middle school STEM teacher to help fight misconceptions around equity and racial justice. From 2008-2015 he served as an Operations Director with InsideTrack where his teams were known for generating evidence-based strategies that delivered statistically significant improvements in student outcomes at public, private, and for-profit schools. From 2015-2017, Dan was a Data Specialist at the Oregon Department of Education where he analyzed outcomes of career and technical education (CTE) and helped make the equity case for hundreds of millions of dollars in CTE funding to eliminate opportunity gaps. Most recently as Oregon’s Statewide Director of Career Pathways, he’s managed a $2,000,000 grant to all seventeen independent Oregon community colleges and built a data system that demonstrated career pathways eliminated the opportunity/achievement gap while serving a significantly higher portion of Students of Color. Dan is honored to serve as Co-Chair of the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition which seeks to create safe schools and communities where every family can belong, every educator can teach, and every child can learn regardless of actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.

This is ACTE’s third cohort of 20 CTE postsecondary professionals in leadership development activities. These activities include creating a personal development plan, attending virtual and in-person professional development sessions, sharing best practices with the field and engaging with a mentor. The goal of the program is to help participants develop and refine their skills in CTE organizational leadership and management; build critical skills in communication, collaboration, networking, problem solving and use of time/resources; and hone their ability to facilitate institutional change. The PLSP-ECMCF also includes a research study to help determine what efforts best contribute to leadership development among postsecondary CTE professionals and the creation of resources that can be widely distributed to support others in the field.
