ACTE Announces Arizona Campus Counselor as 2024 National Award Winner

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Kristina Guy, Campus Counselor at West-MEC in Surprise, Arizona as the 2024 National ACTE Counseling and Career Development Professional Award winner. This award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development, and have advocated for CTE as a viable option for all students. The Counseling and Career Development Award is sponsored by The U.S. Army. 

Kristina is a fourth generation Arizona native.  She lives in the far west valley of Phoenix in Buckeye, Arizona.  She and her husband are working hard to successfully raise their 3 children.  Kristina enjoys time outside with her family, camping, trips to Rocky Point, Mexico, crafting, and reading.  She is a modestly sized fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns, but an over the top fan of the Arizona Cardinals. 

Kristina Guy has been in education since 2003.  She spent her first 9 years in the high school English classroom and is currently in her 11th year as a school counselor. A double graduate from Northern Arizona University, Kristina’s entire educational career has been in the west valley at the Buckeye Union High School District and West-MEC Career and Technical Education district.  Kristina has served a variety of leadership roles from department chair, head coaching position, club advisors, district leadership teams, and being elected as President of the Arizona English Teachers Association (2006) and Board of Directors for Arizona School Counselor Association (current).  Kristina teaches and presents professional development in a variety of ways throughout the year to instructional staff at a variety of levels from local campus PD to presenting at state-wide conferences and trainings. 

Kristina started her CTE journey while in high school taking a couple courses and joining HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations) and participated in the internship program. Through this organization, Kristina learned many skills that have carried her through life: work ethic, professionalism, and the ability to network. Even though not a CTE teacher, Kristina became involved with CTSOs on her campuses to learn, build relationships, and be better prepared to speak to stakeholders about the importance of CTE.  As a firm believer in life-long education, it is important to Kristina to educate and strengthen the future of our tomorrow. 

Guy was one of five finalists for the 2024 national title. The national winner was announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event took place on November 29, During ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2023. The Awards Gala was sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, CareerSafe, Goodheart-Willcox and, The U.S. Army, Stratasys.
