ACTE Announces Michigan Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist,

Sports Medicine Instructor as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Elizabeth Wise, PT/OT/Sports Medicine Instructor at the Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center in Bay City, Michigan as the 2021 ACTE Region I New Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes new career and technical education (CTE) teachers who have made significant contributions to innovative and unique CTE programs, and who shown a professional commitment early in their careers.

Elizabeth Wise is in her fourth year of teaching the OT/PT/Sports Medicine program at the Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center in Bay City, MI. Wise regularly partners with BAISD career center programs and the community to help students gain an appreciation for the cross disciplinary work that is required to be successful in the field. Teaming with Law Enforcement to promote agility and strength training, Early Childhood to engage her students in learning about developmentally appropriate large motor skills, and hosting Blood drives to support the community have been partnerships Wise fosters.

A graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, Wise worked in the industry as an Occupational Therapist for three years. Wise shares a multitude of experiences with her students through business and industry partnerships. Since 2018, she has developed nine new partnerships throughout the communities. During remote learning, Wise coordinated virtual experiences to connect students to physical and occupational therapy. Wise has a no barrier approach to teaching and learning! She has 100% student involvement with HOSA and is involved at the Local, Regional and State conferences, supporting students and running contests.

Wise is one of 5 finalists for the 2022 national title. The national winner will be announced at the virtual ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place virtually on November 30, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. ET.  The Virtual Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
