ACTE Announces Maryland CTE Instructional Specialist as National Award Finalist 

 

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Regina Spruill, CTE Instructional Specialist at Prince George’s County Public Schools in Temple Hills, Maryland, as the 2022 ACTE Region I Teacher Educator of the Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) educators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities. 

 

As a committed educator, advocate, and community organizer, Dr. Regina Spruill has spent more than 25 years in education supporting students, families, and communities through education, school partnerships, and community development. Regina Spruill, Ed.D., has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and Director of Education for a community-based organization, and currently serves as Instructional Specialist for Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department. Her primary goals include improving students’ academic success by strengthening teachers’ instructional practice, providing professional development, and enhancing CTE programs. Working with school administrators, program coordinators, and teachers across the district, Dr. Spruill strives to enhance the school based CTE programs by strengthening teacher capacity through professional development, coaching, and evaluation. Over the past ten years, Dr. Spruill’s work in the Career and Technical Education departments has been focused around increasing student and parent awareness of Career and Technical Education programs, expanding enrollment in CTE programs, and increasing students’ success on Technical Skills Assessments enabling them earn industry licenses and certifications. 

 

Spruill is one of five finalists for the 2023 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 30, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
