ACTE Announces Georgia Superintendent as National Award Finalist 

 

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Marie Ann Levett, Superintendent at Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools in Savannah, Georgia, as the 2022 ACTE Region II Carl Perkins Community Service Award. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) teachers at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities. 

 

Dr. M. Ann Levett, a relentless champion for children, is a highly accomplished career educator with decades of successful service at K12 and higher education levels. She has served as Superintendent of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools since 2017. Dr. Levett began her career in Savannah as a speech and language pathologist and moved to positions in leadership in K-12 before moving on to Antioch University McGregor (OH), the Child Study Center at Yale University School of Medicine (CT), and Macon State College (GA). Dr. Levett also served as a school board member for New Haven Public Schools (CT) and consulted on significant education reform and community development efforts in several international communities. 

 

Dr. Levett is a published author and nationally known speaker. Among her most recent notable achievements are 2022 National Superintendent to Watch, 2021 Georgia Carl Perkins awardee, 2020 University of Georgia College of Education Lifetime Achievement awardee, 2019 Georgia Outstanding Woman, and 2019 Georgia Department of Education’s STEM and STEAM Advocate of the Year.   

 

Dr. Levett is passionate about ensuring that all students experience high quality experiences throughout their educational journey that prepare them for post-secondary Enrollment, military Enlistment, full-time Employment, Entrepreneurship, or any combination thereof! 

 

Levett is one of five finalists for the 2023 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 30, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
