ACTE Announces Arkansas Marketing Teacher and DECA Advisor as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Tiauna Young, Marketing Teacher and DECA Advisory at Success Achievement Academy in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, as the 2021 ACTE Region IV New Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes new career and technical education (CTE) teachers who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique CTE programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers.

Tiauna Young’s first year teaching was as an eMINTS instructor, opening a new school-based enterprise with her students, and was tasked with the initiative to activate a new Pea Ridge DECA chapter. Young finished her fourth-year teaching and completed the ACTE Fellows Leadership program while holding other leadership positions such as AAMET Secretary and continuing to serve on the ACTE Board as Resolutions Chair. The Pea Ridge DECA chapter has grown from nothing to over 60 members (9-12th grade) and has added 8th grade with the re-configuration of district buildings. The NEST, Pea Ridge High School’s school-based enterprise, is thriving and students are receiving hands on learning opportunities to aide in their life after high school. This past year, Young and her students took The NEST online to reach more customers and provide better service to the community, all while adding digital marketing and analytics to student learning. Young truly believes that participating as a mentor and completing the ACTE Leadership Fellows Program has given her the leadership skills needed to succeed in her role as a new teacher.

Young is one of five finalists for the 2022 national title. The national winner will be announced at the virtual ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The virtual event will take place on November 30 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Virtual Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox and Stratasys.
