ACTE Announces Minnesota Director of Career and College Readiness as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Troy Haugen, Director of Career and College Readiness at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Fall, Minnesota, as the 2023 ACTE Region III Administrator of the Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) educators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities. 

Troy Haugen currently serves as Director of Career & College Readiness at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  In these roles, Troy administers the Carl Perkins grant for 26 school districts in west-central Minnesota , serves as the founder and unit leader of Minnesota’s first alternative teacher preparation provider/programs in Minnesota, coordinates the rural cohort of the Minnesota Education Policy Fellowship and founded the MACTA CTE Policy & Leadership Fellowship.   Troy is a licensed teacher, school principal and superintendent and has been in education for 25 years.  He has a special interest in teacher licensure, alternative pathways to licensure, education policy, rural education, and educational equity.  Troy, his wife Tiffany, and four children (daughters Ella and Grace, and twin sons Evan & Benjamin) live near Rollag, Minnesota on the farm that has been in his family for four generations.   

Haugen is one of five finalists for the 2024 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, The Army, and Stratasys.
