ACTE Announces Maryland Teacher as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Josephine Wolfe, Teacher at Center of Applied Technology North in Severn, Maryland, as the 2023 ACTE Region I New Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) teachers at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities.

A CTE graduate herself, Ms. Josephine Wolfe knows the value and importance of high-quality CTE programs.  Attending the Center of Applied Technology North in Severn, Maryland for four years in the Baking and Pastry Arts program, Ms. Wolfe continued her studies upon high school graduation at Johnson & Wales University studying Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Service Management.  After earning a national medal and serving as a national officer in SkillsUSA throughout her high school and college careers, Ms. Wolfe spent several years in the hospitality industry, working for a wide range of companies, from local bakeries to the largest bakery on the Walt Disney World Resort property.  Wanting to give back to the organization that afforded her many opportunities, Ms. Wolfe left the hospitality industry to work at SkillsUSA for several years in the Office of Business Partnerships and Development, where she earned her masters degree in Nonprofit Management.  In 2021, Ms. Wolfe left SkillsUSA to begin her career as a CTE teacher, taking over the high school baking and pastry arts program from her former instructor who retired after thirty years.

Wolfe is one of five finalists for the 2024 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on November 29 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, The Army, and Stratasys.
