The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education Division helps to promote and enhance FCS education throughout the United States and cooperates with other Divisions to advance the purposes of ACTE®.

The purpose of the FCS Division is to prepare students for family life, work life and careers in FCS by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed for:
- strengthening the well-being of individuals and families across the life span
- becoming responsible citizens and leaders in family, community and work settings
- promoting optimal nutrition and wellness across the life span
- managing resources to meet the material needs of individuals and families
- balancing personal, home, family and work lives
- using critical and creative thinking skills to address problems in diverse family, community and work environments
- successful life management, employment and career development
- functioning effectively as providers and consumers of goods and services
- appreciating human worth and accepting responsibility for one’s actions and success in family and work life
The FCS Division does this by empowering individuals and families across the life span to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. Our unique focus is on families, work, and their interrelationships.

Roll of Honor
Roll of Honor: In 1960, the FCS Division began Roll of Honor to create a fellowship fund which would provide fellowships to graduate students who would become the future leaders in the profession, and honor outstanding family and consumer sciences professionals. Please take a moment to check out more information about how you or your state can add an FCS professional’s name to the Roll of Honor and support the graduate fellowship fund. Roll of Honor
Jayla Smith
Jayla Smith has spent her professional career seeking out ways to represent Career and Technical Education. Jayla teaches Family & Consumer Sciences at Tri-County R7 at Jamesport, Missouri, and for many years has served as a member of the Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences board of directors. In addition to chairing committees to lead the profession at the state level, Jayla also serves as Missouri’s Region III representative. Jayla rarely misses an ACTE related meeting, whether it is a board meeting, a state conference, a regional conference or VISION. She consistently represents our profession in a positive, professional way and we honor her commitment to the field today.

Jiffy Steamer of Kentucky. In 2019, Jiffy Steamer reached out to all FCS teachers in the state of Kentucky to donate steamers to their programs. Over 100 FCS programs benefited from their generosity.
