Please read the message below from ACTEA Interim President Anedda Trautman.

Dear NYS ACTEA Membership,

As we enter the holiday season a traditionally joyous time of anticipation, our spirits may be dampened by the unprecedented circumstances we are facing.

Our students, staff and communities continue to struggle through the COVID-19 Pandemic.   We all spend countless hours tracking down positive cases and addressing the mayhem that often follows.  We find ourselves continually sitting on the edge of our seats in anticipation of facing new designations in micro-cluster zoning and worrying about how all of this all going to effect the future of America (our students).  Every night, we leave work mentally drained.  Yet we remain confident that everything is going to be OK. We also prioritize not burdening the staff with our own fears of the uncertainty.

As some of us are back in buildings, some are still working remotely and others have been in and out. It is important to remember many of our students and staff are struggling, some by visible awareness, other like us look like they are remaining strong.   Educators know the challenges our students and staff face around the holidays, but this year we will see a new group emerge, a group we have not seen before.  This will include those that have to make decisions on “how” the holidays will or will not be spent with family and friends.   Please take a few minutes to recognize the struggles and let your staff know we all in this together.

I have said it before and it remains to be true – CTE is strong in America and it is our responsibility to continue to provide the best possible education for our students, communities and beyond.  One thing for sure about our staff is they are some of the most diverse, flexible and adaptable people out there.  I trust they will rise to the top and continue to make us proud by teaching our students to shine.

I will end with wishing everyone happy holidays and for best wishes in the new year.

If you need anything please don’t hesitate to reach out to zone, board representative or board member.  We are ready to assist the best we can.  Your ACTEA board and I continue to remain committed and dedicated to the membership we serve.
