Writing for Techniques


Articles are accepted for publication throughout the year, based on these editorial calendar themes.

For consideration, submit a brief proposal (no more than 500 words). Please include subject matter, intent and value the article would present Techniques’ readership. Please also indicate if you have a preference for print or digital publication. Keep the tone conversational, but informative. Articles accepted for publication should answer who, what, where and when, and also why and how.

Why is your topic important? How can the CTE community at large apply your ideas and success in their own schools and organizations?

  1. Write and submit an article that is wholly original and never published elsewhere.
  2. Articles written for print publication range 1,000–2,500 words.
  3. Articles written for digital publication range 400–1,200 words.
  4. Submit article drafts in Microsoft Word or Google Docs file formats.
  5. Format article copy according to Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
  6. Cite any facts and/or ideas not your own according to APA style. Consider the resources available from Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab for guidance regarding citation format.
  7. Please provide a short (2–3 sentence) bio, including an email address.
  8. We encourage submission of photographs and charts. Deliver these files in the highest quality possible & not embedded in a word processing document. Photographs must include captions and proper attribution. Graphs, charts and tables must include legend, title and attribution as applicable.

Techniques reserves the right to deny publication of content that is deemed to be plagiarized. Techniques will also deny publication of content that is deemed to discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation.
