It’s Nurse Watts here, your current Board President of THOA Inc. I want to, first of all, thank you for all the support that you have given THOA this past summer. The conference was a huge success. I know that everyone walked away with something to take back and use in their classrooms.
It’s no secret what great things THOA has to offer health science teachers and administrators. I believe in what we do, not only for our teachers but for the healthcare industry. We educate, not only for the interest in health science and the workforce needs, but also for the general wellness of Texas. Every health science instructor and every health science course offers a connection that students can benefit from.
This school year, our focus will be “Connection”. The energy at the conference was dynamic and energizing. We were finally able to gather and connect with each other. This opened opportunities for sharing and collaborating with each other.
My vision for this year includes providing opportunities to obtain both professional development hours and industry continued education hours to our members. We wish to support the health science teacher FULLY as a professional. It also includes bringing more industry partners in as sponsors in providing current trends in evidence-based practice for work-force based education and another source of teacher and health care professional support.
This year, I challenge you, as members, to connect with your industry professional organizations and industry community partners to help fulfill THOA’s mission: “To empower Health Science Teachers to achieve maximum self-fulfillment in order to provide the best education for students”. Let’s also connect with those teachers in districts that may not know what THOA has to offer to their health science instructors and their students. Spread the word about the great things that this organization has to offer and the connections that we can facilitate.
In the spirit of connection, we are already hitting the ground working on this challenge.

In closing, I’m a strong believer that those who know better, teach better; those who learn more, teach more; and those who do more, influence more. Let’s continue to produce productive people and educate for the health and wellness of Texas.
I am so excited for what’s to come for our organization and our members and so proud to be of service for the greatest teacher organization in Texas. I look forward to connecting with you all!
Be safe, Be well, Be a blessing,
