Sarah Raikes is a family and consumer sciences (FACS) teacher at Washington County High School in Springfield, Kentucky, where she teaches as many as 9 different courses to over 300 students in a school of 530 students. Raikes has been involved in FACS for the past 29 years and has been at forefront of developing many curriculum and career initiatives at the local, state and
national levels. She was a part of the task force to develop National Family and Consumer Sciences Standards and served on the Kentucky task force to develop a Career and College Ready Definition, which ultimately ensured that CTE programs were part of the accountability score in Kentucky. Raikes as  served as President of Kentucky Association of FACS and Kentucky ACTE (KACTE); she was on the original KACTE Leadership Committee, has been a Kentucky Teacher Intern Program Mentor for 7 years, a State Skills Standards writer and scorer, a State Curriculum Writer, and part of the Curriculum Steering Committee and
National Standards Implementation Committee.

Many of Raikes courses not only earn students academic credits in high school but dual credits for college. Her culinary students
prepare food for over 20 functions a year and produce their own cooking show. Raikes advises the largest and one of the most active FCCLA chapters in the state; her chapter members include numerous regional and state officers and STAR Events
winners. [Mrs. Raikes] had a way of making me feel like I was important, that I was someone special, and that I had a purpose in life,says Hannah Edelen, former student. Without her, I would not be the young woman I am today.
