ACTE Announces Michigan Counselor as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Tina Bacigalupo, Counselor and Student Club Coordinator of Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center in Bay City, Michigan, as the recipient of the 2018 ACTE Region I Career Guidance Award. This award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development, and have advocated for CTE as a viable option for all students.

Bacigalupo coordinates, directs, implements and follows up on every aspect of her students’ unique co-curricular activities. She has grown participation in the Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center from about 450 students to more than 1,100 student participants annually. Bacigalupo assists her peers in managing budgets, coordinating fundraisers, and making event arrangements at the career center.

Bacigalupo has worked tirelessly to promote students working closely with teachers, helping them to see how the competitions fit well into their instructional day. She has been instrumental in helping them integrate event components into lesson plans, showing them how lessons can increase student success. Bay-Arenac is known throughout the state as a leader when it comes to CTSO competitions thanks to Bacigalupo’s advocacy efforts.

She presents regularly about students in competition and recruits them to help judge. She also encourages students to address the Board, to share their experiences and gain real-world skills.

Bacigalupo is one of 5 finalists for the 2019 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Banquet, a dinner and award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Wednesday evening, November 28, during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2018 in San Antonio, TX. The Awards Banquet is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, the US Army, CareerSafe, and Stratasys. For more information about the ACTE Excellence Awards, visit our webpage.
