ACTE Announces Nebraska Business Instructor as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Kathleen McCune, Business Instructor at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, Nebraska, as the 2018 ACTE Region V Postsecondary Teacher of The Year. This award recognizes the finest career and technical teachers at the postsecondary level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institution and communities.

McCune’s teaching career continues where it started—at Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC). As a tenured educator, McCune has embraced the advancement of technology and the opportunities it presents. Her classroom is wherever students are. Particularly through her online courses, she reaches the traditional and nontraditional students that are seeking job-ready skills and career opportunities.

McCune works closely with others in the business division of MPCC to provide courses, degrees, diplomas and certificates in business office technology. She has been involved in selecting, mentoring, and evaluating other faculty that teach in CTE programs. Additionally, she conducts presentations before the North Platte High School Health Career Academy, where she educates high school students on the field of allied health.

To further support and discover emerging issues in business and economic education, McCune represents the Business Education Division of the Association of Career and Technical Education on the Policies Commission for Business and Economic Education (PCBEE).

McCune is one of 5 finalists for the 2019 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Banquet, a dinner and award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Wednesday evening, November 28, during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2018 in San Antonio, TX. The Awards Banquet is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, the US Army, CareerSafe, and Stratasys. For more information about the ACTE Excellence Awards, visit our webpage.
