ACTE Announces Family and Consumer Science Teacher as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Jennifer Snyder, Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher at Success Achievement Academy in Jonesboro, Arkansas, as the 2020 ACTE Region IV New Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes new career and technical education (CTE) teachers who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique CTE programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers.

Jennifer Snyder teaches Family & Consumer Science (FACS) at Success Achievement Academy, an alternative learning environment, in Jonesboro, AR.  She has served as the Arkansas Awards Chair and on the Region IV Awards Committee for two years and just completed her program as a 2019 ACTE New Professionals Fellow.  She is has recently been named as AR ACTE President-Elect. Snyder passionately advocates for CTE programs by staying in close contact with state representatives.  In fact, she recently helped to lead a political forum highlighting candidates in her county, broaching imperative educational issues. In addition to advocating, she keeps FACS relevant with co-curricular project-based learning, partnering with core and other CTE programs. Snyder believes that the first step in student learning is building solid relationships with her students. This allows a mutual respect that pushes her program and activities to a new level that has revitalized a once mundane program at her school.  Snyder received the Success Teacher of the Year in 2017-18 and has been nominated again this year. Additionally, she is the Promotion and Recruitment Chair for Jonesboro Faculty and Staff Team.

Snyder is one of five finalists for the 2021 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Thursday, December 3, during ACTE’s Virtual CareerTech VISION 2020.  The Virtual Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, CareerSafe, and Stratasys.
