On the Move

June 2017

  • Executive Director LeAnn Wilson presented at the U.S. Capitol recognizing House passage of the Perkins reauthorization bill.
  • Executive Director LeAnn Wilson, Deputy Executive Director Steve DeWitt and Legislative and Regulatory Manager Mitch Coppes met with Sec. Betsy DeVos and her staff as an introduction to ACTE and followed up with requested information collected in response to Sec. DeVos's questions.

ACTE staff also:

  • Worked with a number of Hill offices in preparation for the House passage of Perkins reauthorization.
  • Met with congressional appropriators to discuss Perkins funding.
  • Met with Nick Moore in Senator Luther Strange's Office to discuss various CTE issues.
  • Met with Diane McCarthy from West-MEC and James Redstone from the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
  • Attended a meeting of Opportunity America to discuss Perkins reauthorization.
  • Attended a briefing on infrastructure job training hosted by the Senate CTE Caucus and the National Skills Coalition.
  • Participated in the NDD United town hall on the federal budget.
  • Attended the Postsecondary Data Federal Linkages Subcommittee meeting.
  • Participated in a briefing on postsecondary pathways hosted by American Youth Policy Forum and Jobs for the Future.
  • Met with Occupational Safety and Health Administration representatives to discuss how to provide more information on safety and health
  • Attended a briefing hosted by the National Skills Coalition on developing career pathways.
  • Attended a meeting of the Education Big Table Coalition at the National Education Association.
  • Attended the Pennsylvania CTE Conference.
  • Delivered opening remarks and presented a session on outreach activities at the New Mexico ACTE Conference.
  • Delivered remarks, presented sessions, supported the Masonry and Carpentry competitions sponsored by NCCER and staffed a booth at SkillsUSA's National Leadership Conference in Louisville, KY.
  • Participated in the National Career Academies Coalition Board meeting.
  • Participated in the U.S. Army Advocates virtual discussion.
  • Gave a presentation to a PhD class at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
  • Accepted an invitation from Advance CTE and the AIR Center on Great Teachers and Leaders to join work groups focused on leveraging more student access to industry experts
