On the Move

October 2017

  • Provided opening remarks at a Hill briefing hosted by the National Writing Project ACTE staff also worked on securing Jon Craft, superintendent with Butler Tech and one of ACTE’s EIM members to participate.
  • Attended the Advance CTE Fall Meeting, and coordinated and presented with the state directors from Mississippi and North Carolina on CTE administrator training at the conference. 
  • Participated in a National Governor’s Association meeting of national organizations focused on workforce development.
  • Participated on a panel at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Committee on the Supply Chain for Middle-Skill Jobs: Education, Training, and Certification Pathways in Building America’s Skilled Technical Workforce: The Role of Digital Tutors.
  • Met with representatives from Festo Didactic to discuss their new initiatives and opportunities.
  • Met with NCCER to review partnering activities.
  • Participated in a program at the Swiss Embassy and met new OCTAE Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael Wooten.
  • Attended the 11th Annual Jobs for America’s Graduates Thought Leader event and was able to ask a question about CTE image to Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta.
  • Presented at the Alaska ACTE Professional Development Conference in Anchorage. 
  • Represented ACTE at the National FFA Convention, providing greetings at the Fifth General Session and the Proficiency National Finalist Judging.
  • Represented ACTE at the National Career Academy Coalition Board meeting and presented at the NCAC Annual Conference.  
  • Attended the STEM SmartBrief Summit in Washington, DC.
  • Attended the National Science Foundations’ Advanced Technical Education conference in Washington, DC.
  • Attended inaugural meeting of the Advisory Board for the Coalition for Career Development
  • Attended Trust for Insuring Educators annual meeting in Omaha. 
  • Met with the Alliance for Excellent Education, National Career Development Association, Tyton Partners, Workforce Data Quality Campaign, Institute for Higher Education Policy and RTI on various issues of mutual concern. 
  • Attended a meeting of the Credentials of Value Workgroup.
  • Attended the College and Career Academy Support Network symposium on developing a research agenda for career pathways. 
  • Attended the Committee for Education Funding’s annual Legislative Conference and Gala.
  • Participated in the America Working Forward National Workforce Conference hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
  • Met with representatives of Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, Oregon to discuss federal policy issues. 
  • Attended a briefing on the federal budget hosted by NDD United
  • Attended an Education Big Table meeting at Center for American Progress.
  • Attended CTE Caucus briefings on research/communicating CTE and on employer-driven connections.
  • Attended an event on postsecondary data hosted by Third Way.
  • Attended a Senate hearing on the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act.
  • Attended a congressional hearing on the cybersecurity workforce.
