ACTE Announces Minnesota Teacher as 2020 National Winner
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Jessica Daberkow, Agriculture Education Teacher at Martin County West High School in Sherburn, Minnesota, as the recipient of the 2020 National ACTE Carl Perkins Community Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have used CTE to make a significant impact on their community and demonstrated leadership in programs and activities that promote student involvement in community service.
Daberkow will be entering her 12th year of teaching this year, and teaches 7th through 12th grade students in a variety of classes ranging from Introductory to Agriculture, Animal Science, Computer Applications, First Time Homeowners, Shop for Girls and more. Within her department, there are 24 courses that are offered to students. In addition to teaching, Daberkow serves as the FFA advisor in which she advises 121 students. Through school and the FFA, her students are involved in many different community service opportunities that include the community sponsored garden, kids gardening program, Santa’s Helper, From the Ground up and the Corn Drive.
Daberkow was one of five finalists for the 2020 national title. The national winner was announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, a dinner and award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the
country. The event took place on Wednesday evening, December 4, during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2019 in Anaheim, California. The Awards Gala was sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, CareerSafe, Goodheart-Willcox, eDynamic Learning and Stratasys.
