CTE: A Roadmap for the Future of Education
What do you want to be when you grow up? While at one time this was a simple question, today, it’s a complicated query with a quickly growing list of answers. In fact, JLG’s Katie Becker thinks it’s the wrong question altogether. We don’t know what careers will exist in the future and there isn’t a roadmap of educational pathways to help learners and teachers predict the future. What we do know is that education is undergoing a compelling transformation. In today’s quickly evolving and technology-driven environment, no one can predict the path of education, but CTE shows us a vision that shouldn’t be ignored.
In this session, Becker explains how disruptive thinking and instant information accessibility lead to transformation that challenges the status quo, diving into CTE’s influence in breaking down physical and pedagogical walls to change the delivery of education. Every day, Becker works with school districts, seeing first-hand how their schools are leveraging CTE education to shape the future of education, helping students identify their passion and define their future.
As a leader within JLG Architects’ K12 practice studio, Becker is proud to be a product of CTE education – a testament to its essential workforce role and quickly growing impact in the world of education. Now a pacesetter in a male-dominated industry, Becker has become an advocate for education, opportunity, and exploration – redefining pathways to balance experiences in the traditional classroom with hands-on learning. She shapes the future of learning environments for the next generation; mentoring, speaking to students, and challenging others to do the same.
