John Deere Named 2018 ACTE Business of the Year

John DeereALEXANDRIA, VA - The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and its Board of Directors have named John Deere as the 2018 ACTE Business of the Year. The award celebrates businesses and organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to career and technical education (CTE) through their partnership and continuous support of CTE professionals.

According to the National Association for Agricultural Educators (NAAE) Executive Director Jay Jackman, “John Deere is an iconic American company that for nearly 200 years has been synonymous with high-quality products. In partnership with NAAE, the National FFA Foundation and others, John Deere has shown a deep commitment to the career and technical education ecosystem and its students.”

John Deere is particularly supportive in teacher and curriculum development, and has contributed financial resources and expertise to further developing the Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE). John Deere’s support helped develop the Agricultural Power and Technology CASE course in 2014, which has already certified more than 70 teachers, impacting nearly 1,500 students annually. Recently, John Deere committed to sponsoring a CASE Mechanical Systems in Agriculture Course, and they are also piloting a John Deere Technology Integration Project on Precision Agriculture. “John Deere’s efforts to help provide students with rigorous, comprehensive, and sequential programs of study are playing a major role in preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders,” said Jackman.

While John Deere’s commitment to educators and the agricultural science curriculum would merit this award in and of itself, the company also offers hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of scholarships to students in partnership with its dealers. The John Deere FFA Alumni Chapter is also working in conjunction with the National FFA Alumni Association to pilot a mentorship program for FFA members interested in STEM and agriculture careers.

“John Deere’s extraordinary commitment to agricultural education and career and technical education is indicative of their long-term understanding of how to develop leaders,” continued Jackman. “John Deere decision makers know that teachers who are supported through recognition and access to innovative systems of instruction graduate students who will be well-prepared to fill the STEM-based career opportunities at John Deere and throughout the agriscience and agribusiness industry.”

John Deere will be recognized alongside other national ACTE award winners on Dec. 6, at the annual ACTE Awards Banquet during ACTE's CareerTech VISION 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee. VISION is ACTE's signature event, with more than 4,000 CTE professionals from across the country.
