If some of the nation’s Governors get their way, it could be a great year for increased state support of education. Republican and Democratic Governors have presented budget requests to their state legislatures that include increases in state funding for general K-12 education, career and technical education and sub-baccalaureate postsecondary education.

According to an Achieve report charting
state progress on policies that support college and career readiness,
all states have adopted college and career readiness (CCR) standards but
few states have in place a full complement of policies and supports in
four areas--standards, graduation requirements, assessments and
accountability--to facilitate implementation.

State-level community college entities are invited by the Kresge Foundation and Jobs for the Future to apply to join the Student Success Center initiative.
Applications should outline your plans to launch a Student Success
Center, which organizes a state's community colleges around common
action to accelerate efforts to improve persistence and completion.

The latest round of Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grants has
been awarded to community colleges and universities around the country
for the development and expansion of innovative training programs in
