  • Swiss Apprenticeship Model Comes Stateside

    Bühler North America, a branch of the global firm specializing in plant, equipment and services for processing basic foods and for manufacturing advanced materials, had a staffing problem. So Bühler took matters into its own hands, developing a joint program with Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

  • CTE Helps Nation Near 90 Percent Graduation Rate

    The latest annual Building a Grad Nation report finds that, for the first time, the United States is on track to a 90 percent high school graduation rate by the class of 2020.

  • College and Work Ready Report Addresses Literacy and Math Skills Needs

    An event hosted by the National Center for Education and the Economy focused on the release of the organization's new report, "What Does It Really Mean to Be College and Work Ready? The Mathematics and English Literacy Required of First Year Community College Students." A series of six panels discussed the key findings of the report and implications for the education system.

  • Common Core Assessment Consortia Report On Progress

    Both the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) consortium held separate events in Washington to update organizations on recent activities.

  • Next Generation Science Standards Now Available

    On April 9, the final Next Generation Science Standards were released. These standards, modeled after the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics, are touted as “voluntary, rigorous, and internationally benchmarked standards for K-12 science education.”

  • Next-generation Science Standards Available for Final Review

    On January 8, the second and final public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) was released. Comment on the draft will be accepted until January 29 and the final standards are expected to be released in March.
