  • CTE Standards Open for Review by National Board

    The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has announced the public comment period for the revised Career and Technical Education (CTE) Standards, 2nd edition. The standards will be available for review from March 16 to April 13.

  • New Report on CTE Teacher Certification, Evaluation & Professional Development

    In mid-October, the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders at the American Institutes for Research released a special Issues Brief titled, "21st Century Educators: Developing and Supporting Great Career and Technical Education Teachers." The brief contains an overview of activities around the country related to CTE teacher certification, performance evaluation, and professional development, and suggests that a more integrated human capital management system is critical to CTE teacher effectiveness.

  • Department Releases Blueprint to Transform Teaching Profession

    On April 25th, the U.S. Department of Education released its plan for transforming the teaching profession titled “A Blueprint for Recognizing Education Success, Professional Excellence and Collaborative Teaching (RESPECT).” The Blueprint for RESPECT is the latest piece of the department’s efforts to start a national conversation on the teaching profession, which began in 2012.

  • Alternatively Certified Teachers Effective, But Need Feedback

    With debate ongoing as to the effectiveness of CTE teachers who come to teaching from practicing their area of expertise in business and industry, also known as alternative certification, a study on the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) induction model for alternatively certified teachers recently released by the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education (NRCCTE) intends to shed light on the issue.

  • Congress Fails to Reverse Sequestration

    Yesterday, the Senate voted on two pieces of legislation that would replace the automatic, across-the-board sequestration cuts with alternative deficit reduction plans. Sequestration will officially go into effect at 11:59p.m. Today, Friday, March 1. Senate Republicans and Democrats both put forward competing bills in a last-ditch attempt to prevent the sequester. Both measures were defeated along party lines, ensuring that sequestration will be unavoidable.
