  • Can You Hear Me Now?

I had the opportunity to speak at a workshop for CTE instructors on July 17. I was asked to briefly talk on the benefits of membership in ACTE and the leadership opportunity with the Fellowship Program. Patrick Biggerstaff, 2012 Region III Fellow, asked me to share with the attendees.

  • Back From HOSA, Proud of Success

I have just recently returned from our HOSA National Leadership Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 26-29.  My group included 18 students and five adults. Two of the adults are teachers with me at the JEL Career Center, and it was their first time attending.

  • Region Conferences Are More Than Worth It

I attended our Region III Conference on June 19-21 in East Peoria, Illinois, with my fellow Indiana state officers. It was my first Region III Conference, and I was not sure what to expect. What I found was a very well-run educational opportunities for all CTE educators and administrators.

  • HOSA!

As all of us in CTE know, we have to incorporate CTSOs into our curriculum. My students are members of Health Occupation Students of America. Each year, we select officers, do fundraisers and attend conferences.

  • A Summer of Learning and Leaving My Comfort Zone

This summer has been an enjoyable one, albeit a stretch for this small town girl. The Practitioner-in-Residence program has provided a valuable experience to me and one that I can share with the students and staff I work with. Originally I planned to stay for an extended period of time at ACTE Headquarters; however, work and family obligations required me to switch gears and plan for 7–10 day visits each month. I am continuing to work on projects while at home but am finding it is much easier to stay on task at the ACTE office.

  • SDACTE Conference

The SDACTE Conference was once again an opportunity for learning, catching up with old friends while making new friends, and getting rejuvenated and ready for the upcoming school year.

  • Reflections on Professional Development

Professional development for educators is not only a responsibility but more importantly a necessity of being a professional. In the ever-changing world of education, teacher professional development is a means to enhance educational effectiveness. Research in education has shown that the quality of the teacher is the most important factor in raising student achievement. Surely parents overwhelmingly agree that they want the best teacher possible in every classroom. In my opinion, professional development is an integral factor in making educators the best they can be, which in turn will raise student achievement.
