The Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education serves as a
platform to foster leadership, program development, advocacy, policy
development, professional development, and networking opportunities for
its members in Georgia. Over 2,500 members attended the conference with the premise of promoting career and technical education.

Each year, I always like to step outside my box and attend a
professional development training that does not specifically relate to
my career path. This year, I chose to attend an institute that was
hosted by our state department of
education. I am happy to report that it was well worth my time.

I had the opportunity to serve in an external capacity as a part of the
Teacher Enrichment Workshop in conjunction with the MAGEC-STEM PLUS
(Minority Access to Graduate Education and Careers in Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Plus). The workshop was
provided, along with a multitude of other programs, through a grant from
the National Science Foundation.

Georgia Southern University hosted a Common Core Summit: Summer
Leadership Academy to introduce high school educators in various content
areas on how to effectively implement the Common Core Standards.

This week, I'm heading west to join more than 3,500 CTE professionals at ACTE's CareerTech VISION in Las Vegas. The VISION agenda includes a wide variety of concurrent sessions. Given there are more sessions than there is time to attend, I'm reviewing program descriptions to plan my schedule. This prompts me to reflect on the bigger picture of conference participation and reasons for attending.

In an effort to enhance students and parents knowledge
of preparing for postsecondary options after high school, the Savannah-Chatham
County Public School System has developed a series of college and career readiness
forums to help its constituents navigate this process after high school.

school, your community of peers, your students and your professional
organization on a state, regional and national level.

Our panelists, led by Dave Keaton, presented the work we have done thus
far in developing a draft Constitution and Bylaws for our proposed state
ACTE chapter. Maine is currently a non-unified state, and it is the
goal of this group to inform instructors of the overview of what we have
been doing, as well as the history of ACTE in our state.
