  • Maine ESEA Waiver Approved

    The U.S. Department of Education approved Maine's application for flexibility from key requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in exchange for a state developed plan to prepare all students for college and career, focus aid on the neediest students and support effective teachers and leadership.

    With Congress on their month-long August recess, the clock is ticking on important Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 funding decisions for CTE. Connecting with lawmakers during August through Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets is a quick and easy way to spread the message of CTE and the importance of Perkins funding.

  • August Advocacy: New Tools to Help You Promote Perkins Funding

    Congress has packed up and left Washington for a five-week recess, which runs through September 6. The annual August recess is a time when senators and representatives return home to put in some face-to-face time with constituents. However, lawmakers are leaving town this year with a lot of important policy issues still pending, including the reauthorization of both the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as well as Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 funding for Perkins.

  • New NGA Chair Mary Fallin Proposes Education Initiative

    On August 4, 2013, the National Governor’s Association (NGA) appointed Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin as its new Chair. After the announcement, Gov. Fallin introduced her 2013-14 NGA Chair’s Initiative called America Works: Education and Training for Tomorrow’s Jobs.

    In response to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce's request for Higher Education Act recommendations, ACTE surveyed its membership and submitted a letter of recommendation to Chairman Kline (R-MN) and Ranking Member Miller (D-CA).
