  • ACT Report: Mismatch Between Student Interests and Job Projections

    2013 ACT-tested graduates continue to struggle to meet ACT's benchmarks for readiness, while expressing little interest in STEM and fast-growing career fields. These findings were highlighted in ACT's most recent publication on The Condition of College and Career Readiness.

  • Pennsylvania ESEA Waiver Includes CTE

    On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education approved Pennsylvania’s application to waive key requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), currently known as No Child Left Behind. Pennsylvania’s waiver was the 41st approved since the department began issuing waiver in 2011.

  • President Announces Higher Ed Plan

    In a press release this morning, President Barack Obama announced his plan to improve postsecondary education access and affordability. Over the past few years, the President has continually professed his support for community colleges and ensuring access to higher education for low-income students, and this new proposal looks to build on those efforts through the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.

  • Sequester Impact Report: District Cuts Include Occupational Education

    This week, AASA: The School Superintendents Association released a new report about the effects of the across-the-board sequester cuts on school districts around the country. A survey of 541 responses from 48 states yielded some interesting results on how districts are dealing with reductions in federal funding, including Perkins, as the 2013-14 school year begins.

  • Transfer Student Success Rates

    A new analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Research Center finds that more than 60 percent of students who transferred from two-year to four-year institutions in the 2005-2006 school year had obtained bachelor's degrees, while an additional 8 percent were still working on their degrees, within six years.

  • Georgetown Report Examines Race in Higher Ed

    Racial stratification in higher education is explored in a recent Georgetown University report, which examines enrollments by race and ethnicity at U.S. postsecondary institutions. The publication brings attention to important issues of access and equality, while also prompting questions about the value and purpose of different postsecondary institutions.
