$475 Million for Community College-Employer Partnerships

A new round of funding is available for innovative partnerships between community colleges and businesses through the latest round of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant program.

The U.S. Departments of Education and Labor recently announced $474.5 million in TAACCCT grants focusing on innovative, evidence-based models for work-based training that feature effective partnerships with employers. Grantees are expected to track student outcomes in the workplace and, for this round, to focus on effectively using online and technology-based training tools.

The announcement was made by Acting Secretary of Labor Seth Harris at Contra Costa College in California. Contra Costa is part of "Design-It Build-It Ship-It," a consortium of 10 community colleges awarded $15 million in the second round of TAACCCT grants. Contra Costa received $600,000 to take the lead in the region on advanced automotive technology training and to create new degree and accelerated certificate programs with local stakeholders such as workforce investment boards and economic development corporations.
