  • VP Biden Announces National Apprenticeship Partnerships

    The newly announced Registered Apprenticeship – College Consortium (RACC) will work to expand articulation agreements between Registered Apprenticeships and postsecondary institutions to offer more opportunities for accelerated postsecondary education.

  • Department Proposes Gainful Employment Regulations

    The Department of Education recently proposed regulations on gainful employment requirements for postsecondary educational institutions offering federal financial aid for career training programs. This proposal comes nearly a year after a federal court struck down the department’s previous attempt to regulate gainful employment.

  • Landrieu Proposes Pell for Short-term Training

    Recognizing the benefits short-term postsecondary CTE programs have for students, job-seekers, employers and the economy, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) introduced the Jumpstart Our Businesses by supporting Students (JOBS) Act to expand Pell grant eligibility to students enrolling in short-term CTE programs.

  • White House Hosts Summit on College Opportunity

    On January 16, President Obama hosted a group of approximately 140 college presidents, business people, foundation heads and nonprofit executives at an event focusing on improving college access for low-income students.

  • Education Leader George Miller to Retire

    Rep. George Miller (D-CA), ranking member on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and winner of ACTE’s Policymaker of the Year Award, announced his retirement on Monday. He will not seek re-election in 2014.

  • ED Seeks Input on College Ratings System

    The U.S. Department of Education continues to seek input on its proposed college ratings system. The ratings system could take into account tuition costs, enrollment of low-income students, graduation rates, job placements rates, graduate earnings, and other factors in determining a final rating for an institution, which in turn could affect an institution's eligibility for federal student aid.

  • Sen. Stabenow Introduces Postsecondary Job Training Bill

    On December 10, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) introduced legislation to establish a federal tax-credit-matching program to complement existing programs in states that provide a “new jobs training” tax credit.
