{"id":1924,"date":"2026-03-16T13:57:31","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T13:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.acteonline.org\/cte-101\/?page_id=1924"},"modified":"2026-04-07T19:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T19:47:11","slug":"what-is-cte-administrators","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.acteonline.org\/cte-101\/what-is-cte-administrators\/","title":{"rendered":"What is CTE?"},"content":{"rendered":"  <style>\r\n    body blockquote::before {\r\n        background: #11ada2;\r\n    }\r\n  <\/style>\r\n  <section id=\"row-block_e37b9c82f6b4d5085167a758d95c53c3\" class=\"wysiwyg-2col \">\r\n  <div class=\"content-area\">\r\n            <div class=\"image-area\">\r\n          <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acteonline.org\/cte-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/03\/CTE101-Admin-HealthCareStudent.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"img-fluid\">\r\n        <\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"text-area \">\r\n      <h2>What is CTE?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>CTE prepares secondary and postsecondary students with academic, technical and employability skills for further education and careers in high-wage, in-demand occupations.<\/li>\n<li>CTE is delivered across a variety of settings, including middle schools, comprehensive high schools, CTE-specific high schools, area technical centers, community and technical colleges, four-year universities, and corrections and detention facilities.<\/li>\n<li>CTE encompasses a wide array of programs of study, from construction to supply chain and transportation; advanced manufacturing to arts, entertainment and design; energy to education; and digital technology to public service and safety.<\/li>\n<li>CTE programs are increasingly organized into vertical pathways that start with broad, foundational knowledge and skills and progress over time to incorporate more occupationally specific knowledge and skills.<\/li>\n<li>CTE programs incorporate educational credentials like postsecondary certificates and degrees as well as industry credentials like licenses and certifications.<\/li>\n<li>CTE enables students to explore careers and participate in work-based learning experiences like job shadows, internships and apprenticeships.<\/li>\n<li>CTE dual-credit opportunities increasingly enable learners to earn early postsecondary credits.<\/li>\n<li>CTE students go onto college, apprenticeships, the workforce, the military and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/cte.ed.gov\/pcrn\/profile\/national\/enrollment\/2024\/participant\/secondary\/gender\/allstudents\">CTE By the Numbers (2023-24)<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>On the secondary level, CTE programs served over <strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #008080\">8.6 million<\/strong> high school students. Within that total,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #008080\">3.8 million<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0high school students were CTE concentrators, taking 2+ courses in the same CTE program area.<\/li>\n<li>On the postsecondary level, CTE programs served <strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #99cc00\">3.3 million<\/strong>\u00a0postsecondary students. That includes\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #99cc00\">1.8 million<\/strong>\u00a0postsecondary students who were CTE concentrators, earning 12+ credits in a CTE program area (or less if the program is shorter).<\/li>\n<li>High school CTE students were most likely to concentrate in\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">Health Science<\/strong>;<strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">\u00a0Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources<\/strong><\/span>;\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">Business and Marketing<\/strong><\/span> Career Clusters, while postsecondary CTE concentrators were most likely to concentrate in <span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">Health Science<\/strong><\/span>,<strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #333399\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080\">Business and Marketing<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong style=\"font-size: 20px\">IT<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>In the 29 states\/territories that collect this data, about\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #008080\">236,000<\/strong>\u00a0secondary CTE concentrators participated in work-based learning.<\/li>\n<li>In the 22 states\/territories that collect this data, about\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #008080\">434,000<\/strong>\u00a0secondary CTE concentrators earned a recognized postsecondary credential.<\/li>\n<li>In the 11 states\/territories that collect this data, about\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 20px;color: #008080\">134,000<\/strong>\u00a0secondary CTE concentrators earned postsecondary credits in their CTE program area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":15,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":true,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-1924","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>What is CTE?
