Quality Child Care Web Search

To complete the quality child care web search assignment:

  1. Students will google their partner facility; ask them to take notes on the school’s online presence.
  2. Direct students to the database for child care facilities in your state. They should look up their school and complete part one of the evaluation worksheet. “Consider what violations are listed, what corrections are needed — and discern which violation, if there are any, is the worst.”
  3. “Choose two other schools to review. Complete part two of the evaluation worksheet.”
  4. Encourage reflection to complete part three. “How did you determine which was the worst complaint? What criteria did you use to make this judgment?” Ask students, “What did you notice about the different types of programs that might encourage you to (or prevent you from) enrolling your child?”

To check for understanding, students might be quizzed on vocabulary terms:

  • Compliance
  • Corrective action
  • Statute
  • Regulations
  • Accreditation
  • Capacity
  • Provider types
