Online Leadership Seminars Presented by the U.S. ArmyIn 2013, ACTE partnered with the U.S. Army and launched a series of leadership seminars demonstrating the leader-centric, collaborative approaches and best practices that enable Army soldiers to become adaptive 21st-century leaders. Topics included team management, working with limited resources, delegation and decision-making.

#VISION13—In order to promote the many talented and innovative speakers of ACTE’s Career Tech VISION2013, the Association launched a #VISION13 online seminar series. Topics included using manufacturing tours to promote business and industry partnerships and promoting 21st Century skills in the classroom.

2010

September—Community College and Career Training Grant Briefing
Earlier this year, Congress authorized the Community College and Career Training Grant program in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, with appropriations of $500 million each year for Fiscal Years 2011 through 2014. Community colleges will soon be able to apply for grants for the purpose of developing, offering, and improving educational or career training for workers eligible for training under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act. Mason Bishop, former deputy assistant secretary at the Department of Labor, and Brent Orrell, former deputy assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, discussed the grant’s background, eligibility and application process, followed by a Q&A. April—Elementary and Secondary Education Act Blueprint Webinar
ACTE hosted a free, one-hour webinar on Wednesday, April 14. Glenn Cummings, deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, Massie Ritsch, deputy assistant secretary for External Affairs and Outreach for the U.S. Department of Education, and Judy Wurtzel, deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, walked attendees through the department’s blueprint for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and answered questions about the proposal. In 2008, ACTE co-sponsored two webinars, one for a secondary and one for a postsecondary audience, with CIW about empowering students for success in today's web-centered workplace through integrating IT certifications into your web technology courses. HSTW/ACTE 2009-2010 School Improvement Webinar Series

High Schools That Work (HSTW) Ohio Regions and ACTE collaborated on a free School Improvement Webinar Series to provide administrators and teacher leaders with strategies for implementing HSTW and Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW) and for implementing school improvement techniques outside of the HSTW/MMGW framework. To receive graduate credit for viewing each archived webinar, please fill out the survey that will pop up after viewing the webinar in Playback mode, print a copy before submitting and contact Terry Wheeler (if you are in Ohio) or Diana Rogers (rest of the U.S.) to complete the process.

ACTE Leadership Training Program

ACTE is proud to offer you an opportunity to develop the leadership skills of existing and potential leaders in your state association. The Leadership Development Task Force has developed a new state leadership training program to further develop current state and regional association leaders, while also exposing up and coming leaders to leadership development.

ACTE National Leadership Fellowship Program

The ACTE National Leadership Fellowship Program began in 2009 as an Opportunity Fund project initiated by the ACTE Board of Directors. As of 2011, three classes of Fellows have completed the program. In summary, the ACTE Fellowship Program is an instrument to provide professional development, policy knowledge and leadership development.
