On December 17, Congress finalized a funding package that contains the remaining nine appropriations bills for Fiscal Year (FY) 2012, including the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill. The legislation passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support. In this bill, Perkins is level-funded! This is fantastic news!
ACTE has been working tirelessly to ensure that Perkins was not on the chopping block again this year. We have met with every appropriator’s office and have sent numerous letters and communications to Capitol Hill demonstrating the success of CTE programming. Of course, we could not have done this alone, thank you to the CTE advocates who have made calls, hosted site visits, engaged businesses and showed policymakers how crucial CTE is to your communities.
The fight now turns to FY 2013. We look forward to working with you to ensure that CTE programs continue to receive federal funds.

- It’s important to get your local media involved. Call or e-mail your local print and television stations about Perkins being cut and how this would impact your CTE program, including effects on students, your community and building a qualified workforce. When the newspaper or television runs the story, send a copy to your Member of Congress, so they can see the value of CTE to their constituents.
