The Advanced Computer Applications Program was the 2006 Career and Technology Education Awards of Excellence winner for Secondary Programs.  Parents and business leaders consider the Advanced Computer Applications (ACA) Program a "Gifted and Talented Program" for those students with special skills in computers. This "distinguished instructional program" operates in a team environment where many applications and topics are presented as a “business problem”.

Students track technology corporations for two years and monthly report trends, new products and services to the class. Students leave Advanced Computer Applications with a strong understanding of the integration of the corporate world and how it impacts other businesses. "Professors in the Classroom" is a transition program where students meet, work with and learn from local college professors. Partnerships with the community college and proprietary college provide excellent support to help nurture and grow ACA students. Hagerstown Business College and Advanced Computer Applications, this year in a pilot, combined program advisory committee members "Professionals in the classroom" introducers students to local, state, and national IT business philosophies, strategies and thinking.
