How will I upload my video to the contest hosting site?
More information on this process will be available here in September 2010.
What are all these forms?
Along with the broadcast-quality hard copy on DVD, you are required to submit to ACTE a PSA
information form, a copyright assignment form from each student who produced the PSA, and a talent release form from each person appearing in the PSA. Students under 18 must have a parent or guardian’s signature on the release form.
Who will be judging my PSA?
PSAs will be judged by ACTE staff and by a panel of media professionals and representatives from career-technical student organizations (CTSOs).
What’s the fine print?
The CTE Month 2011 logo can be used only for PSA purposes; all other usage is prohibited. ACTE retains the copyright on any submitted material and reserves the right to use the material in any way or format it sees fit. ACTE is not responsible for lost, damaged, incorrectly encoded, incorrectly burned, incorrectly uploaded, mislabeled or misdirected entries. Entries will not be returned and will become the property of ACTE. PSA entries cannot be used for any commercial activity.
Do you have any tips for my PSA?
The winning videos for the 2011 CTE Month Video PSA Contest should strive to:
- Engage and inform about career and technical education (CTE)
- Show that CTE leads to a successful career
- Show the role of CTE in a strong national economy
- Depict a variety of CTE fields (see next section)
- Depict the diversity of students involved in CTE
- Show CTE as relevant to the general public—not focus on one school, one area of CTE, or on ACTE itself (if ACTE is depicted in the PSA, ACTE must only be portrayed as a resource the viewer can use to learn more information about CTE)
- Incorporate the 2011 CTE Month logo, the ACTE Web site address and the message about ACTE defined above (see the “What’s required?” section); and
- Be technically well-made and suitable for broadcast on the Internet and possibly TV.
How can I learn more about CTE?
- Learn what CTE is and what kinds of courses it encompasses with ACTE’s career and technical education fact sheet.
- Learn about the effectiveness of CTE in preparing students for further education and careers.
- Learn how investment in CTE yields more money for communities around the country.
- Think about the role of CTE in the economy: CTE students grow up to become highly skilled technicians, medical professionals, IT specialists, businesspeople, engineers and more. The career fields that CTE students prepare for are the career fields that keep our nation growing.
Can educators help with their students' projects?
Educators may advise students, but should not take on a significant role in creating the PSAs.
