ALEXANDRIA, VA- The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces that Sandy Hume of Eau Claire, Wisconsin has been named the ACTE Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher. The award was presented to Hume at the ACTE Annual Convention and Career Tech Expo on December 1 in Atlanta, GA.

The ACTE Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher award is given in recognition of a career and technical teacher who has made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in an educational career.

Hume is the Business Technology instructor at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC). Through her relationships with Eau Claire businesses, she is able to provide her students with a unique and well-rounded perspective. In her quest to stress the importance of building strong relationships between students and instructors, Hume created an “Advisee Program.” This mentoring program was developed to assist students with scheduling and any other college related concerns.

With her Wisconsin Instructional Design System certification, Hume developed curriculum for five classes. As a member of ACTE and the Wisconsin ACTE for over four years, she has represented her state association at CVTC events and recruited new members to the organization. She also serves as the chair of the WACTE Bylaws and Resolution committee.

Through her actions, Hume encourages her peers to invest in their students. One colleague states, “Sandy is tireless in her efforts to provide her students with the best learning opportunities. She is determined to reach each student so they can achieve their goals.”
