ALEXANDRIA, VA- The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) has moved its Annual Convention to be held December 8-10, from New Orleans, Louisiana to Kansas City, Missouri. The decision to move came after the New Orleans Convention Bureau canceled all meetings booked at the Convention Center between September 2005 and March 31, 2006.
“In making the decision to move, ACTE wanted a city that could host over the original dates, had space that could accommodate the Career Tech Expo, and had hotel rates that were the same or less than New Orleans. Kansas City fit the bill in all counts. With that said, Kansas City promises to be an exciting location for our Annual Convention with plenty to experience and enjoy in and around the city, including great dining, shopping, and lots of entertainment,” stated Peter Magnuson, ACTE’s Director of Programs and Communications.
ACTE anticipates that much of their Convention schedule will remain the same. Change expert, Jennifer James and stress management expert, Loretta LaRoche will remain as General Session speakers. ACTE will continue to hold special sessions on workforce readiness and career academies.
Although ACTE had to move the Convention, the city and the people of New Orleans will not be forgotten. ACTE is planning a special event to recognize and support the communities and career and technical educators affected by Katrina.
The ACTE Annual Convention offers attendees innovation, new ideas, peer-to-peer networking and transformation in the career and technical education profession.
