ALEXANDRIA, VA – Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) will be honored as one of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) 2006 National Policymakers of the Year on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 during ACTE’s annual National Policy Seminar at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, DC.
ACTE is honoring Senator Burns for his dedication to and support for the improvement of career and technical education policies, which ensure that youth and adults are prepared for the future by building their skills for the careers of today and tomorrow.
Senator Burns commented, “I am honored to be the ACTE Policymaker of the year. Technical schools perform an invaluable service for Montanans and all Americans. They are they gateway to high-paying, fulfilling jobs that are helping move our nation’s economy forward. To be recognized for this is a great honor, and I look forward to continuing my work in this area and seeing if I can be so honored again next year.”
Now in his third term, Senator Burns is the longest-serving Republican Senator in Montana history. A member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, he has worked hard to secure funds for a variety of critical education programs including the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act. He has been a leader in the efforts to maintain funding for occupational and employment information programs and a consistent voice in the support of career and technical education broadly.
“ACTE is pleased to honor policymakers such as Senator Burns who have made significant efforts to ensure the advancement of quality career and technical education programs across the country that provide students with high-quality skills which prepare them for further education and meaningful careers,” commented ACTE President Connie Smithson.
The Association for Career and Technical Education is the national professional association for the field of career and technical education. Now in its 80th year, ACTE’s membership numbers more than 30,000 teachers, counselors and administrators at the middle school, high school and postsecondary levels.
