ALEXANDRIA, VA –The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) will host a National Dissemination Center for Career and Technical Education (NDCCTE) webcast discussing Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) and their role in integrating academic, technical and employability skills. The live webcast will be held at ACTE headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, on Thursday, February 16, 2006, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. EST, in celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Week. The interactive event and previous webcasts can be viewed on the NDCCTE Web site, www.nccte.org.
CTE Week is a commemoration of career and technical education programs across the country and was originally established by a Congressional Resolution. CTE provides students with the technical skills, in addition to the academics needed, for success in postsecondary education and in today’s high-skilled workplace. While ACTE and the CTSOs celebrate the value of CTE on a daily basis, CTE Week is one time where CTE educators, administrators and students can come together to share their passion with other students and the community.
A representative from the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, U.S. Department of Education, will moderate the panel discussion. Panelists include high school students who are enrolled in CTE programs and are officers of the national CTSOs. Their discussion will focus on different aspects of CTE and how instruction is enhanced by specific CTSO activities. Areas to be covered include the value of CTSOs in service learning, academic enhancement, professional development, citizenship and advocacy, business-education partnerships, industry standards benchmarking, and resource management.
Video Clips from each CTSO will illustrate specific activities supporting these important areas of instruction. Viewers of the webcast can ask questions of the panel by signing up (at no charge) for a WebBoard account on the NDCCTE Web site, at www.nccte.org. Viewers can submit questions during the presentation through the chat room. Please allow one full day for an account to be validated by email confirmation.
