ALEXANDRIA, VA ? The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces it will participate in the Workforce Innovations 2003: Fueling America?s Economic Engine Conference, held in Washington, D.C., from July 8-10, 2003.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration and the National Association of Workforce Boards, Workforce Innovations 2003 is the nation?s premier conference for America?s successful workforce investment leaders, decision makers and change agents from the federal, state and local levels. This year?s conference focuses on the power of e 3 ? linking employment, education and economic development to build the high skilled workforce needed in today?s workplace.

By participating in the conference ACTE will assist in stressing the importance of training and developing a more highly skilled labor force. To ensure students get the career skills they need to succeed, ACTE is dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares both youth and adults for today?s careers. Career and technical education provides students with the opportunity to learn academic and technical skills, explore different career options and discover ways to balance life and work roles.

U.S. Department of Labor Secretary, Elaine Chao will join Assistant Secretary, Emily Stover DeRocco and the CEO of Hospital Corporation of America, Jack Bovender in speaking at the conference. The conference will also feature several sessions presented by top business executives. The sessions will address sector-based worker shortages and emerging skills demands. The presenters will highlight how businesses can meet these challenges by a more forward-looking role that includes emphasizing the importance of a strong academic foundation for workers and the value of opportunities in high-growth careers that require some post-secondary education but not necessarily four year degrees.
