ALEXANDRIA, VA – Congressman Tom Osborne (R-NE) will be honored as one of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) 2005 National Policy Makers of the Year on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 during the ACTE annual National Policy Seminar in Washington, DC.

ACTE is honoring Representative Osborne for his efforts to improve and strengthen career and technical education. A member of the Committees on Education and the Workforce, Agriculture, and Resources, the Congressman has played an instrumental role in improving America’s education and workforce development systems.

“ACTE is pleased to honor policy makers such as Representative Osborne, who have made significant contributions in assuring the growth and improvement of the career and technical education programs that strengthen the American workforce, and contribute to economic development in communities across the county,” stated ACTE President Francie Russell.

"Career and Technical Education are critical components of a high-quality education, as the success of students who participate in such programs is undeniable. As today's students work to obtain the skills necessary to succeed, CTE is an integral part of any education. I am very proud of Nebraska's high-quality CTE programs and am privileged to work on these issues at a national level," Rep Osborne stated.

Representative Osborne received a bachelor’s degree in history from Hastings College and his Master’s and Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Nebraska where he also served as head football coach for 25 years.

The Association for Career and Technical Education is the national professional association for the field of career and technical education. Now in its 79th year, ACTE’s membership numbers more than 30,000 teachers, counselors and administrators at the middle school, high school and postsecondary levels.
