ACTE Seeks Nominations for Major Awards and Honors

Alexandria, VA- The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is seeking nominations for the following 2003 awards and honors: the Carl Perkins Humanitarian Award, Arch of Fame, Award of Merit, Outstanding Service Award and the ACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service. Presentation of these awards is scheduled for the ACTE Annual Convention and Career Tech Expo in Orlando, Florida, December 11-14, 2003. Nominations must be received at ACTE headquarters by May 1, 2003.

Guidelines for nominations, the nomination form, and complete information on each award are available on the ACTE Web site at http://www.acteonline.org/about/awards/index.cfm. You may also write to: ACTE Awards Program, 1410 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, to obtain the appropriate forms and instructions, indicating the awards for which you wish to make a nomination. An email request can be sent to mfitzgerald@acteonlin.org,  or you may fax a request to (703) 683-7424.

Carl Perkins Humanitarian Award. This award was established in 1985 in honor of the late Rep. Carl Perkins and is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated the same humanitarian concerns exemplified by Rep. Perkins. These individuals must have made outstanding meritorious contributions of state or national significance to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technical education.

Arch of Fame. This honor is meant to recognize the contributions and distinguished accomplishments of those persons who have been identified with the work and purposes of the Association for Career and Technical Education. The Arch of Fame is a means by which ACTE provides recognition for the commitment and dedication that individuals may have demonstrated to the organization. Watchful and responsible selection of inductees shall be maintained to ensure the esteem and worthiness of the award. Once an individual has been named to the Arch of Fame, that person remains an active member of the Arch of Fame forever.

Award of Merit. Developed to recognize individuals or organizations outside the field of career and technical education for the highest meritorious contributions to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technical education.

Outstanding Service Award. This award was created to recognize educators who have made the highest meritorious contributions to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technical education.

ACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service. Created to recognize teachers with significant accomplishments and outstanding leadership in programs and activities that promote community involvement. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward training, motivating, and inspiring their peers and students to become involved in programs and projects that benefit their communities.

The Association for Career and Technical Education is the national association for the field of career and technical education. Now in its 77th year, ACTE?s membership numbers more than 30,000 teachers, counselors and administrator at the middle school, high school and college and university levels.
